Airlines Cancel Flights Ahead of Hurricane Helene
As Hurricane Helene approaches the U.S., airlines are proactively canceling flights to ensure passenger safety.
More than 450 flights across the U.S. have been canceled for Thursday, notably affecting Tallahassee and Tampa. The National Hurricane Center warns of devastating winds in northern Florida and southern Georgia.
Below are the rebooking and cancellation policies from major airlines:
Alaska Airlines
Travelers with flights scheduled from Sept. 25-27 to/from Cancun, Fort Myers, Orlando, and Tampa may rebook or cancel for free, provided they do so before departure. New travel must be completed by Sept. 30.
American Airlines
American Airlines allows free rebooking for flights through Sept. 27 from various airports including Asheville, Atlanta, and Charleston. Rebooking must be completed by Sept. 28 for travel until Oct. 5.
Breeze Airways
For Breeze flights scheduled from Sept. 25-27, travelers have the option to cancel for flight credit or rebook within 14 days without charge.
Delta Air Lines
Delta allows free rebooking for flights from Sept. 25-27 for several airports including Fort Myers, Tampa, and Key West, with travel to be completed by Oct. 4. Changes must be reissued by Oct. 4.
Frontier Airlines
Frontier passengers can rebook flights scheduled through Sept. 25 to Cancun and between Sept. 26-27 for other Florida airports without change fees, though fare differences may apply.
JetBlue Airways
JetBlue allows free changes for flights from Sept. 26-27 to/from several airports, with new departures by Oct. 2.
Southwest Airlines
Southwest customers can rebook or fly standby without fees for flights through Sept. 27 with specific locations listed.
Spirit Airlines
Spirit passengers may rebook flights scheduled through Sept. 25 to Cancun and between Sept. 25-27 for other Florida airports, with fares applicable after Oct. 2.
United Airlines
United Airlines permits free rebooking for flights before Sept. 27 for numerous locations, conditioned on travel completion by Oct. 4.
For those on other airlines, such as Allegiant, it's advised to check directly with the respective carriers.
