SAN ANTONIO - Bexar County officials visited the Austin Amtrak station on Monday, joined by a Travis County judge and officials from Mexico to discuss enhancing passenger rail services to Monterrey.

Officially, Judge Peter Sakai and Councilwoman Melissa Cabello Havrda traveled via Amtrak train to Austin with Travis County Judge Andy Brown to highlight the railway's potential impact.

"[The] key part of this is ensuring access to safe, reliable, and timely transportation," Judge Brown emphasized. He advocated for robust passenger rail systems to connect cities and regions effectively.

This initiative is particularly significant for Judges Brown and Sakai, who formed the Texas Passenger Rail Advisory Committee (TPRAC) to enhance railway travel efficiency across Texas, starting with routes between San Antonio and Austin.

"We can't add more cars and trucks to I-35; we need alternative transportation, and it's already available," Judge Sakai noted.

Councilwoman Havrda expressed enthusiasm for the new rail options, stating, "The train ride symbolizes a high-speed investment in our future... I'm thrilled about the potential for high-speed rail to connect our communities."

This burgeoning railway is set to provide faster travel for the growing population between Bexar and Travis counties.
