Minor Milton damage in Mexican state of Yucatan
Minor Hurricane Milton Damage in Yucatan, Mexico
After Hurricane Milton's recent close approach, the Yucatan state has emerged mostly intact, per government reports.
Governor Joaquin Diaz Mena closely monitored the situation as the Category 4 storm moved away from the coast of northeastern Yucatan near Rio Lagartos. Reports indicate that while there were 274 incidents of power outages and downed trees across various municipalities—including Merida, Progreso, and Celestun—no major structural damage or casualties have been reported.
The Comision Federal de Electricidad is working diligently to restore power in affected regions, especially in Celestun, where flooding occurred. However, electricity has already been restored in Sisal port.
As conditions improved, operations at Manuel Crescencio Rejon Airport in Merida resumed, noting that winds and rain significantly decreased as the storm moved farther out to sea. Among the most severely impacted was Tizimin, where around 1,020 residents from coastal areas like El Cuyo and Rio Lagartos sought shelter. While these areas experienced strong effects, reports suggest a gradual return to normalcy.
With Hurricane Milton moving away, Yucatan authorities remain alert, but the immediate threat has seemingly passed.
