After the successful launch of the Maya Train linking Cancun to historic sites and natural wonders, Mexican rail travel has surged in popularity. New railway projects, including routes from Cancun to Oaxaca and a Gulf-Pacific line, are underway.
Historic Train Route to Link Guadalajara and Tequila
The long-awaited Tequila Express, reconnecting Guadalajara to Tequila, is set to resume after extensive railway upgrades. Javier Arroyo Navarro, President of Guadalajara's Chamber of Commerce, stated that unique experiences significantly impact visitors.
Traveling through the picturesque Jalisco countryside, known for its UNESCO-protected Agavero landscape, will now be a reality.
Discover Guadalajara
Guadalajara, Mexico's eighth-largest city with over 1.3 million residents, offers a mix of financial and cultural heritage. Its historical center is rich with landmarks like the Hospicio Cabañas, Guadalajara Cathedral, and the vibrant San Juan de Dios market.
Exploring Tequila
In contrast, Tequila is a quaint town with around 44,000 residents, famous for its colonial charm and tequila production. Key attractions include the Church of Santiago Apostol and Quinta Sauza mansion, with nearby distilleries offering authentic experiences.
More Information on the Train
The relaunched Tequila Express is expected to draw approximately one million tourists to Tequila each year, encouraging overnight stays to explore local budget-friendly accommodations. While details on the revamped train journey are still pending, ticket sales will commence on September 23.
