In a devastating incident in southern Mexico, six migrants lost their lives after soldiers opened fire on their vehicle, which was carrying a group of 33 people. The event occurred near the Guatemala border.

The Mexican defense ministry reported that the military patrol noticed the migrants' pick-up truck speeding and attempting to evade a stop. Following what soldiers reported as explosions, two officers discharged their weapons. These officers have been suspended pending investigation.

In Chiapas state, a military police report indicated that the soldiers pursued the vehicle after it ignored an army checkpoint. The driver attempted to escape down a dirt road but lost control, resulting in the tragic outcome.

The Victims

The deceased migrants hailed from Egypt, Nepal, Cuba, India, and Pakistan, although their exact nationalities were not disclosed. Four fatalities occurred on-site, with an additional two succumbing to injuries in the hospital. The remaining 17 passengers were detained by immigration authorities.
