WATCH: MEXICO FLIGHT INVADED BY INSECTS BEFORE TAKEOFF

On September 8, a Volaris plane scheduled to fly from Mexico to California encountered an unusual situation as it was swarmed by a cloud of insects just before takeoff.

Passengers aboard the flight from Morelia to Los Angeles found themselves in disbelief when thousands of bugs, initially identified as mosquitoes, gathered on the cabin ceiling. The flight went ahead as planned, despite the unwelcome intrusion.

Passenger Jose Javier Suarez shared footage that captured the unsettling scene. He explained, "They left the door open while they were refueling or doing pre-flight checks. It’s the rainy season, which means a lot of mosquitoes are drawn to the plane lights."

THE INSECTS (AND HUMANS) MADE IT SAFELY TO CALIFORNIA

Surprisingly, despite what Suarez referred to as a "massive amount of mosquitoes," the crew managed to close the doors and depart on time. The insects remained visible during the flight and upon landing in Los Angeles. This is not the first time Volaris has dealt with insect disturbances; a prior incident in October 2023 resulted in a several-hour delay due to a similar situation.

The viral video of this event has sparked conversations about how these insects infiltrated the aircraft. Past reports from 2019 highlighted a comparable mosquito problem on a Volaris flight, indicating a pattern in such occurrences and raising questions about the airline's protocols.

Given these recent insect invasions, travelers may feel compelled to carry extra insect repellent when flying Volaris.

As unusual travel experiences find their way onto social media, the onus is on airlines and airports to address such issues proactively.
